Though I did not do much writing during my years practicing medicine, I was quite into wordiness as a teenager. I suppose I found it a good outlet for teen angst. During that period I wrote a number of short stories, many based on TV series of the time (today they’d be called “fanfiction”) and also a full-blown novel that takes place in the Old West and with characters based on high-school acquaintances. You will never see any of those teen writings posted here!
Since retiring from medicine I have again taken up my pen (or, truth be told, the keyboard) and have begun reenergizing the creative juices. In 2023 I published my first novel, The Marquis’s Healing, a period romance that takes place during the Crimean War. It is the first in a trilogy called “The Carmichael Saga.” The second book in the series, The Spare’s Discovery. was released in 2024, and the final book in the trilogy, The Spy’s Salvation is now completed. I now am busy doing research for my next writing project and will be posting about that soon — I hope. |
There are quite a few other stories still in my head, so with luck I hope to add several more book covers to my webpage. Stay tuned!
I also write for a couple blogs that can be found online: the Mind, Soul & Body blog (a monthly feature of “God-styled Life with Maggie P”), and my own blog, Ramblings of a Retired Doc, which I add to as I feel inspired to do. There also is a little Facebook page (DW Craton) about my latest book — more of a page to discuss my latest book, but one on which I throw out tidbits about the continuing saga of the Duke of Whittington’s family from time to time. |
